Nathan Blecharczyk and Greg Hayes are both prominent American business executives, but there is no public confirmation of a direct business, family or professional relationship between them. Their documented careers run through different companies and industries: Blecharczyk is an Airbnb co-founder and its Chief Strategy Officer, while the Greg Hayes most likely meant by this search is Gregory J. Hayes, the former United Technologies and RTX chief executive.

As of October 6, 2026, Blecharczyk remains an Airbnb director and senior executive. Hayes, meanwhile, is no longer an RTX executive; he became Lead Independent Director of Phillips 66 on May 13, 2026 and also serves on the board of Becton, Dickinson and Company. Those current roles are documented in company filings and governance records, but none establishes a shared venture or other direct link between the two men. Airbnb’s 2026 proxy statement and Phillips 66’s 2026 announcement provide the clearest current picture.

Is There a Nathan Blecharczyk and Greg Hayes Connection?

There is no public record establishing Nathan Blecharczyk and Gregory J. Hayes as business partners, relatives, co-workers or members of the same corporate board.

That does not prove they have never met or crossed paths privately. It simply means the available corporate and public records do not support presenting them as connected figures. Their names appearing together in search results should not be treated as evidence of a relationship.

The identity of “Greg Hayes” also needs care. Gregory J. Hayes, the former UTC and RTX executive, is the most plausible person intended by the query, but the name is not unique. A different Gregory Hayes appears in Canadian securities filings in connection with mining and finance, so details about the two should not be mixed. A 2026 securities filing documents that separate executive.

Nathan Blecharczyk’s Path to Airbnb

Nathan Blecharczyk’s career began with software rather than corporate management. In a Giving Pledge letter signed with his wife Elizabeth, he wrote that he started programming at age 12 and had turned the hobby into a business by 14. He later studied Computer Science at Harvard University, where he graduated in 2005. The Giving Pledge profile and Airbnb’s 2026 proxy support those details.

The timing of Airbnb’s founding is sometimes simplified. Airbnb’s own company history says the business was “born” in 2007, when Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia welcomed the first Airbed & Breakfast guests. Its 2026 proxy, however, says Blecharczyk co-founded the company in 2008. The distinction matters: the original hosting experiment began in 2007, while Blecharczyk joined the venture as it developed into the company that became Airbnb. Airbnb’s official history records the 2007 and 2008 milestones separately.

Blecharczyk was closely associated with Airbnb’s technical development in its early years. Business Insider described him as Airbnb’s co-founder and Chief Technology Officer in 2010, and The Guardian was still interviewing him in that CTO role in 2016. The title is historical; he is not Airbnb’s current CTO.

According to Airbnb’s governance profile, Blecharczyk led the creation of the company’s engineering, data science, payments and performance-marketing teams. Airbnb also credits him with later oversight of projects including City Portal, reservation-screening technology and Airbnb-friendly apartments. Those claims come from Airbnb itself and are best understood as the company’s account of his responsibilities. Airbnb’s governance profile sets out that career history.

What Nathan Blecharczyk Does Now

Blecharczyk’s present role is broader than the technical job he held during Airbnb’s early years. Airbnb identifies him as Chief Strategy Officer, co-founder and director, with responsibilities spanning business strategy, product, data, public policy and other long-term initiatives.

His continued board role was reaffirmed on June 5, 2026, when Airbnb shareholders elected him to another three-year term as a Class III director. An SEC ownership filing dated August 28, 2026 still listed him as both a director and Chief Strategy Officer. Airbnb’s June 2026 filing and the August 2026 Form 4 confirm that status.

He has also taken on work outside Airbnb. Common Sense Media announced on November 13, 2025 that Blecharczyk had joined its board of directors, citing his background in technology, platform trust and online safety. Common Sense Media’s announcement confirms the appointment.

Who Is Gregory J. Hayes?

Gregory J. Hayes followed a very different route into senior corporate leadership. He trained in economics and accounting rather than software, earning a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Purdue University and becoming a certified public accountant.

Hayes joined United Technologies Corporation in 1999 through its merger with Sundstrand. He later became UTC’s Chief Financial Officer, serving from 2008 to 2014, before being appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2014 and chairman in 2016. BD’s 2025 board announcement summarizes that career progression.

His years at UTC coincided with a major reshaping of the company. Under his leadership, UTC divested Sikorsky Aircraft, acquired Rockwell Collins and separated Carrier and Otis. The remaining aerospace businesses were then combined with Raytheon Company in 2020, creating Raytheon Technologies, later renamed RTX.

Company records credit Hayes with a central leadership role in those changes. That attribution should be kept in context: the transaction history is factual, while judgments about the importance of his individual contribution come from the companies describing his tenure.

From United Technologies to RTX

After the 2020 combination, Hayes became chief executive of the combined aerospace and defense business. He later served as chairman and CEO of RTX before Christopher Calio succeeded him as CEO on May 2, 2024.

Hayes then moved into the role of Executive Chairman. RTX announced in February 2025 that he would leave that position and the company’s board effective April 30, 2025. He subsequently served as a non-executive Special Advisor to the CEO through January 2, 2026. RTX’s leadership-transition filing gives those dates.

That timeline is important because older biographies may still call Hayes the RTX CEO, chairman or adviser. None of those titles is current as of October 2026.

What Greg Hayes Does Now

Hayes has moved from day-to-day corporate leadership toward board governance.

Becton, Dickinson and Company appointed him to its board effective March 26, 2025. BD said his experience in finance, corporate strategy, mergers, acquisitions and major corporate restructurings was relevant to its own transformation plans. BD’s appointment announcement provides the details.

He had already been serving on the Phillips 66 board when, on May 13, 2026, the company appointed him Lead Independent Director. Phillips 66’s current records also identify him as chair of its Nominating and Governance Committee. Phillips 66’s announcement confirms the appointment.

Hayes also serves as chairman of the board of NAF, a nonprofit focused on career-connected education for high-school students. NAF’s current board page lists him in that position, although the same page contains older duplicated wording about his former RTX title. NAF’s board page is reliable for the NAF role but should not be used to describe his present relationship with RTX.

Two Different Routes to Corporate Influence

Blecharczyk and Hayes are more useful to compare as separate business figures than as presumed associates.

Blecharczyk’s career has been tied closely to one company he helped create. His early work centered on software and technical infrastructure, and his role expanded over time into product, public policy, data and corporate strategy.

Hayes built his career inside established industrial businesses. His progression moved from finance to senior management and eventually to leadership of large acquisitions, divestitures and corporate restructurings. His present work is concentrated more heavily in board oversight than executive management.

Career dimension Nathan Blecharczyk Gregory J. Hayes
Early professional base Software engineering Finance and accounting
Best-known company Airbnb United Technologies / RTX
Career model Founder and long-term executive Corporate executive
Major strategic focus Technology, platform operations and company strategy M&A, restructuring and governance
Current emphasis Airbnb strategy and board service Corporate board governance

The table describes two distinct career paths. It does not imply that the men collaborated.

Why Do Their Names Appear Together?

There is no authoritative public explanation for why “Nathan Blecharczyk and Greg Hayes” has become a paired search query.

Some websites have published comparison pages about the two, but the existence of those pages does not establish a real-world relationship. Nor does their appearance in the same directory or search result. Without a documented shared event, company, investment, family relationship or project, the safer reading is that these are two independently notable executives whose names have been grouped online.

What is clear is their present status. Nathan Blecharczyk remains an Airbnb co-founder, Chief Strategy Officer and director. Gregory J. Hayes has completed his RTX leadership career and, as of October 6, 2026, holds prominent governance roles including Lead Independent Director at Phillips 66 and a directorship at BD.
