Brad Pitt and Greg Hayes: What Is the Real Connection?

The connection between Brad Pitt and Greg Hayes depends on which Greg Hayes is meant. There is no publicly confirmed personal, family or business relationship between Pitt and Gregory J. Hayes, the former chief executive and executive chairman of RTX. Gregory J. Hayes comes from the corporate and aerospace world, not the film industry.

There is, however, a separate Greg Hayes who works in film scoring and sound, and his name does appear on productions connected to Pitt. The clearest example is Father of the Bride (2022): Warner Bros./Max credits Pitt as an executive producer, while WaterTower Music’s official soundtrack credits say Greg Hayes recorded and mixed the score.

A further source of confusion is Pitt’s role in F1 The Movie. His character is Sonny Hayes, not Greg Hayes. Apple’s official film guide identifies Pitt’s character consistently as Sonny.

The Greg Hayes connected to Brad Pitt through film credits

The most concrete link involves Father of the Bride, the 2022 film starring Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan. A Warner Bros./Max production announcement lists Brad Pitt among the executive producers.

WaterTower Music, Warner’s soundtrack label, separately credits Greg Hayes with recording and mixing the film’s score. That establishes a genuine production-level connection: Pitt and a film-sound professional named Greg Hayes held different credited roles on the same project.

It does not establish that the two men met, worked together directly or had a personal relationship. Executive producing and score recording are separate parts of a film production, and the credits alone do not show how much direct contact, if any, took place.

There is also an earlier overlap. Paramount’s official page for Year of the Dog credits Pitt as an executive producer of the 2007 film. A soundtrack release record on Discogs lists a Greg Hayes as an assistant engineer.

That second example is useful but less definitive because the Hayes credit comes from a secondary soundtrack database rather than a studio credit page. It is therefore better treated as supporting evidence, while Father of the Bride remains the strongest documented overlap.

Who is the film-sound Greg Hayes?

A professional Greg Hayes describes his work as covering music, film scoring and post-production on his professional website. That background fits the kind of work credited to Greg Hayes on Father of the Bride.

There is one important limit to keep in mind. The production credits naming Greg Hayes do not provide a unique identifier connecting that name conclusively to the owner of the professional website. The occupational match is strong, but the safest description is simply a film-scoring and sound professional named Greg Hayes.

His role is also very different from Pitt’s. Pitt’s credit on Father of the Bride was at executive-producer level, while Hayes’s credit relates to recording and mixing the score. Their names appear in the same production ecosystem, but in separate areas of the filmmaking process.

Who is Gregory J. Hayes?

The other prominent Greg Hayes is Gregory J. Hayes, a longtime corporate executive whose career has centered on United Technologies and RTX.

Hayes spent two decades at United Technologies Corporation, becoming chief executive in 2014 and chairman in 2016. He later played a leading role in the 2020 combination of United Technologies’ aerospace businesses with Raytheon Company, creating what became RTX. His corporate background also includes senior roles in finance, strategy and business development.

BD’s March 2025 board appointment announcement says Hayes earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Purdue University and is a certified public accountant. BD appointed him to its board effective March 26, 2025.

His RTX role changed soon afterward. An RTX leadership announcement said Hayes would step down as Executive Chairman and director on April 30, 2025, then serve as a special adviser through January 2, 2026.

As of October 3, 2026, Hayes is Lead Independent Director of Phillips 66. The company announced that appointment effective May 13, 2026, and its current Gregory J. Hayes profile also records his earlier UTC and RTX leadership roles.

None of those corporate records establishes a relationship with Brad Pitt. Gregory J. Hayes should therefore not be presented as Pitt’s colleague, relative, business partner or collaborator.

Brad Pitt’s background and career

Brad Pitt was born William Bradley Pitt on December 18, 1963, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. His family later moved to Missouri, where he graduated from Kickapoo High School and attended the University of Missouri as an advertising student.

He left for Hollywood in 1986 shortly before completing his degree. A later University of Missouri profile clarified an often-muddled detail: Pitt took part in commencement but did not complete the final week needed to finish the degree.

His early acting work included television appearances and small film roles before Thelma & Louise in 1991 brought wider attention. Films including A River Runs Through It, Interview with the Vampire, Legends of the Fall and Se7en established him as a major film actor during the 1990s.

Pitt’s career eventually expanded well beyond acting. His producing work became an important part of his public profile, including 12 Years a Slave, which won Best Picture at the 2014 Academy Awards. He later won the 2020 Oscar for Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood.

That producer career is what creates the strongest legitimate overlap with the film-sound Greg Hayes: the connection comes through movie credits, not through Gregory J. Hayes’s corporate career.

Why Sonny Hayes in F1 adds to the confusion

Pitt’s recent association with the surname Hayes comes from F1 The Movie, in which he plays Sonny Hayes, a veteran racing driver returning to Formula One.

Pitt was also one of the film’s producers. At the March 15, 2026 Academy Awards, F1 was nominated for Best Picture with Pitt among the credited producers, while the film won the Oscar for Sound.

Nothing in the official film material identifies the character as Greg Hayes, and there is no public basis for connecting Sonny Hayes to Gregory J. Hayes of RTX.

Pitt has instead given a specific real-world reference for part of Sonny’s backstory. In a Formula 1 interview published in July 2025, he said the character’s past drew on former Formula One driver Martin Donnelly’s 1990 crash. That is the documented inspiration for Sonny’s crash history, rather than any connection with Gregory J. Hayes.

What the Brad Pitt and Greg Hayes connection actually amounts to

There are three separate identities worth keeping apart.

Gregory J. Hayes is the former UTC and RTX executive who now holds board roles including Lead Independent Director at Phillips 66. There is no public confirmation of a direct relationship between him and Brad Pitt.

Greg Hayes, the film-sound professional, is the name that produces the strongest genuine connection. Pitt and a Greg Hayes are separately credited on Father of the Bride, with Pitt serving as an executive producer and Hayes recording and mixing the score. A second, less strongly sourced overlap appears on Year of the Dog.

And Sonny Hayes is simply the fictional racing driver played by Pitt in F1 The Movie.

So the most accurate answer to “Brad Pitt and Greg Hayes” is not that the two men share a single well-known relationship. The name points to different people, and only the film-sound Greg Hayes has a documented connection to Pitt through shared production credits.
