The British Film Institute’s account of Lady Macbeth highlights Pugh’s performance and identifies the film as an adaptation of Nikolai Leskov’s 1865 novella.
Pugh later appeared as Amy March in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women (2019). Her performance earned a nomination for Actress in a Supporting Role at the 2020 Academy Awards.
Her subsequent screen work includes Black Widow and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
In October 2026, Pugh also appeared as Cathy Ames in Netflix’s seven-episode adaptation of John Steinbeck’s East of Eden. Netflix’s official production information identifies her role and confirms the series’ release.
